You do not need a visa!

Business visa

To obtain a business visa you need to provide the following documents:

  1. Passport – a valid passport or other identity document recognized by the Russian Federation.
  2. Visa application form – the electronic visa application form is filled in on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/, printed and signed by the applicant.
  3. One photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm – color photo on matte or glossy paper. You can find the photo requirements here.
  4. Invitation issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, or original direct invitation issued by the host organization in case this option is stipulated in a bilateral agreement between the Russian Federation and the applicant's country of citizenship.
  5. * Medical insurance policy – a policy certificate or other document on medical insurance must contain the following information: applicant’s name, details of the insurer, the signature of the insurer; the validity of the policy must cover the period of the requested visa (when requesting a single or double visa) or the period of the first trip (when requesting a multiple-entry visa); coverage territory – Russia, or the whole world, or Europe, including Russia.
  6. * Permission for continuous stay in Japan for more than 90 days.

Humanitarian visa

To obtain a humanitarian visa you need to provide the following documents:

  1. Passport – a valid passport or other identity document recognized by the Russian Federation.
  2. Visa application form – the electronic visa application form is filled in on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/, printed and signed by the applicant.
  3. One photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm – color photo on matte or glossy paper. You can find the photo requirements here.
  4. Invitation issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, or original direct invitation issued by the host organization in case this option is stipulated in a bilateral agreement between the Russian Federation and the applicant's country of citizenship.
  5. * Medical insurance policy – a policy certificate or other document on medical insurance must contain the following information: applicant’s name, details of the insurer, the signature of the insurer; the validity of the policy must cover the period of the requested visa (when requesting a single or double visa) or the period of the first trip (when requesting a multiple-entry visa); coverage territory – Russia, or the whole world, or Europe, including Russia.

Tourist visa

To obtain a tourist visa you need to provide the following documents:

  1. Passport – a valid passport or other identity document recognized by the Russian Federation.
  2. Visa application form – the electronic visa application form is filled in on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/, printed and signed by the applicant.
  3. One photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm – color photo on matte or glossy paper. You can find the photo requirements here.
  4. Travel confirmation issued by an organization carrying out tour operator activities. You can request a travel confirmation at the hotel you intend to stay at. Please note that the hotel booking confirmation does not replace the travel confirmation voucher and cannot be used as a supporting document for a visa application.
  5. * Medical insurance policy – a policy certificate or other document on medical insurance must contain the following information: applicant’s name, details of the insurer, the signature of the insurer; the validity of the policy must cover the period of the requested visa (when requesting a single or double visa) or the period of the first trip (when requesting a multiple-entry visa); coverage territory – Russia, or the whole world, or Europe, including Russia.
  6. * Permission for continuous stay in Japan for more than 90 days.

Private visa

To obtain a private visa you need to provide the following documents:

  1. Passport – a valid passport or other identity document recognized by the Russian Federation.
  2. Visa application form – the electronic visa application form is filled in on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/, printed and signed by the applicant.
  3. One photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm – color photo on matte or glossy paper. You can find the photo requirements here.
  4. Invitation issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, or
  5. Written application of a Russian citizen addressed to the head of the consular office for the joint departure with his family members who are foreign citizens to Russia

    This application must be accompanied by:
    • a copy of the Russian passport of the applicant;
    • documents on the relationship with the applicant (copies of the birth certificate of a minor child or marriage certificate).
    Documents in a foreign (non-Russian) language confirming the relationship with the applicant must contain an Apostille stamp on the reverse side, or
  6. Notarized request from an EU citizen legally residing in Russia, inviting close relatives (spouses, children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren). The lawful residence must be proven by providing a copy of the documents clarifying the status, such as:
    • resident permit;
    • temporary residence permit;
    • student or work visa;
    • copies of the relevant birth or marriage certificates (in the case of applications of grandparents, grandchildren – copies of two birth certificates confirming the lineal consanguinity of the persons in question).

To apply for a student visa you need to provide the following documents:

Work visa

To apply for a work visa you need to provide the following documents:

Transit visa


To obtain a transit visa you need to provide the following documents:

  1. Passport – a valid passport or other identity document recognized by the Russian Federation.
  2. Visa application form – the electronic visa application form is filled in on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/, printed and signed by the applicant.
  3. One photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm – color photo on matte or glossy paper. You can find the photo requirements here.
  4. Visa allowing entry to a neighboring country according to the itinerary, or a visa to a destination country (visa is not required for citizens of countries entitled to visa-free entry into the neighboring country or destination country in accordance with the agreements between them), or
    • passport of this country, or
    • motivated request and the documents, confirming the necessity of a stop, except if otherwise provided in an international agreement.
  5. Tickets for entry and exit from the Russian Federation or a written statement of the itinerary accompanied by the documents for a car or other vehicle;
  6. * Medical insurance policy – a policy certificate or other document on medical insurance must contain the following information: applicant’s name, details of the insurer, the signature of the insurer; the validity of the policy must cover the period of the requested visa (when requesting a single or double visa) or the period of the first trip (when requesting a multiple-entry visa); coverage territory – Russia, or the whole world, or Europe, including Russia

Please note: А single-entry visa is issued for up to 10 days (by road or train) or up to 3 days (by air). The validity of a double-entry transit visa may not exceed one month. If a foreign citizen needs to travel through Russia to a third country and to return by the same route through the Russian territory within a period exceeding one month, he/she should first apply for a single-entry transit visa. The second transit visa should be applied for at the Russian Consulate in the first destination country.
